Obama NLRB Hires Former AFSCME, AFT, HRC, and Janet Reno Flack

Gregory J. King joined the NLRB as Director of the Office of Public Affairs on June 16, 2013. Gregory will advise the Chairman, the Acting General Counsel and other NLRB senior leaders on media relations, public affairs, social media, and internal and external communications. Gregory has more than three decades of experience as a communicator in Washington, D.C. In the 1980’s he handled communications for two members of Congress, Edward F. Feighan (D-OH) and Paul A. Kanjorski (D-PA), before joining the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) in 1989 as the group’s Communications Director. During his tenure, membership in the LGBT group grew from 750 individuals to more than 300,000, eventually becoming the largest organization fighting for the LGBT community in America.

Gregory comes to the NLRB after 15 years communicating for two of the nation’s largest public employee unions: AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, where he was assistant director of the Communications Department; and the AFT, the American Federation of Teachers, where he was the press secretary for their late-president, Sandra Feldman.

“I am honored to be at the NLRB, which is a vitally important institution for working Americans,” Gregory tells All Aboard. “I’ve come to the NLRB knowing that it faces unique challenges, but I hope I have the experience and ability to help meet those challenges.”

Gregory lives in Baltimore with his partner of 28 years, Peter Sultan, who is an attorney in the Office of General Counsel at the U.S. International Trade Commission. Gregory enjoys spending time with his family on the Jersey Shore, skiing, Shakespeare, movies and history.
