Red Rock Casino Workers Push Back Against Impeding Union

In Las Vegas, Nevada, the majority of Red Rock Casino workers agree that they do not want to be beholden to a union. And this is exactly what their vote indicated. However, their votes were not enough to convince union bosses to stay out. And when brought to court the first time, the District Court judge ruled in favor of the union officials’ policies, completely rejecting the workers’ votes and instead referring to the union’s “card check” schemes as evidence that the workers supported them.

But on August 24, 2021, the Red Rock Casino workers filed an amicus brief to take the union to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation is now taking up the case and fighting to make these hard workers’ votes heard.

In The Center Square, National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation President is quoted on the matter:

“It is outrageous that the judge’s order imposing unwanted unionization brushes aside the workers’ contrary preference clearly demonstrated in the secret ballot vote,” Mark Mix, NRWLDF president, said in a statement. […]

“There have been countless examples of workers being pressured, misled and even bribed to sign union cards, which is why ‘Card Check’ is widely accepted as unreliable, especially compared to an NLRB-supervised secret ballot election,” Mix said.

“If federal labor law is to be about defending the rights and freedoms of rank-and-file workers, then the Court of Appeals should promptly overturn Judge Navarro’s order substituting the wishes of NLRB bureaucrats for the actual choice workers made at the ballot box,” he added.
