A so-called “free rider” is a misnomer devised by union officials seeking to force payments from people who want no part of the union.
Forced unionism advocates use the term to demean employees who do not pay for unwanted monopoly union representation but are forced to accept it because of a an exclusive bargaining contract with their employer.
Such employees are actually “captive passengers.”
