Bill Would Make Big Labor Even Less Accountable to Rank-and-File
Current federal law wrongly forces employers of unionized companies to put on the bargaining table the freedom of their employees to keep their jobs without being forced to fork over dues or fees to Big Labor.
Effectively, employers are forced to name their price for selling out their employees’ freedom.
Nevertheless, many employers respect the Right to Work of their employees so much they manage, somehow, to avoid signing a forced-dues contract even as they operate in a state where firing workers for refusing to bankroll a union is permissible.
Unfortunately, if union kingpins like Sean O’Brien get their way, that position may become almost impossible to sustain.
Union Bosses Reach Number Needed to Bring Teamster Scheme to House Floor
First introduced in the Senate as S.844 by turncoat Republican Josh Hawley (Mo.), the arguably unconstitutional “Faster Labor Contracts Act,” or FLCA, now has a House companion, H.R.5408, which is being carried by union-boss Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.).
Despite the myriad problems with this bill, virtually every Democrat has signed the discharge petition to force an FLCA floor vote, bypassing the normal committee process.
Most disturbingly, seven Big Labor appeasing House Republicans have already opted to go against the norms of respecting their party’s leadership and the legislative process by signing onto the FLCA discharge petition.
“GOP Reps. Don Bacon [Neb.], Rob Bresnahan [Pa.], Brian Fitzpatrick [Pa.], Nick LaLota [N.Y.], Mike Lawler [N.Y.], Max Miller [Ohio], and Riley Moore [W.Va] have decided to genuflect to the union bosses at the expense of the independent-minded workers and small businesses in their districts and across the nation,” said National Right to Work Committee Vice President Greg Mourad.
“This is part of a pattern. In December 2025, most of these same GOP congressmen sabotaged President Trump’s agenda by voting to restore monopoly-bargaining privileges to federal union bosses after Mr. Trump had issued two executive orders suspending them.
“The FLCA would similarly undermine Trump efforts to drain the D.C. Swamp by empowering Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service [FMCS] bureaucrats to force employers and employees in a bargaining unit to agree to a first union contract with no recourse for either side for two years.
“This, mind you, is after the FMCS was rightly put into dormancy by the Trump Administration as a consequence of its well-documented profligacy and waste.”
On May 20, the discharge petition secured the 218 signatures required to come to the floor. All but two Democrats signed it. Now that Big Labor has all the signatures it needs to force Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) to hold a House roll-call on the anti-worker FLCA, Rep. Norcross can order this to happen practically any time when the chamber is in session.
A Brainchild of Chameleon Teamster Boss Sean O’Brien
The FLCA is the brainchild of International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) President Sean O’Brien.
“Mr. O’Brien has put up a façade of bipartisan collegiality no other major union boss has attempted in decades. But his putative pivot to the GOP is nothing more,” Mr. Mourad explained.
“The IBT has continued to fund Democrats with more than 80% of its PAC money since the start of 2025, and has continued to finance various other left-wing causes.
“Many rank-and-file unionists see through the façade, as witnessed by their many attempts to remove the Teamster brass from their workplaces through ‘decertifications,’ plus the multitude of unfair labor charges and complaints workers have filed against the IBT.
“And yet, somehow, Republican politicians like Mr. Hawley, Mr. Miller, and even previous National Right to Work Act cosponsor Sen. Roger Marshall [Kan.] keep falling for the act!”
Efforts to Stop FLCA On Capitol Hill Underway
The Committee is fighting hard to stop the FLCA as well as Sean O’Brien’s scheme to turn the GOP into a Democrat Party “lite” with regard to labor policy.
“Mr. O’Brien’s initial foray into the halls of power this term flopped when his handpicked Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer resigned in disgrace this spring before an Inspector General investigation into numerous allegations of her misconduct had even been completed,” recalled Mr. Mourad.
“Now Committee staff are regularly working with allies on Capitol Hill to block the Teamster machine in Congress by exposing the dangers of the FLCA.
“Committee members are also letting members of Congress who have pledged to support Right to Work in the past know that there will be serious repercussions if they renege on their pledges by helping advance the FLCA.
“And if Big Labor succeeds in pushing the FLCA through the House, as expected, the Committee will go all out to stop it in the Senate.”
